2015 ended with a win, and 2016 started with my Rory mercury in a successful shoot. I'm probably going to re-shoot Rory sometime this year, but for now the game is on. I'm gunning two contests at the moment. Kirishima, Aiz Wallenstein and Fremy Speeddraw my top 3 best 2015 cosplays! Personally, I think I really have improved quite a lot from my very first 'serious' costume project Vincent Valentine.
Word of Advice: In contests, it's best to join for the sake of it plus...dangerously hope that you'll win! It's a painful process, but then life's like that anyway! So best to take the plunge, and take it prepared.

Want spam of my cosplay photos? Go to my WorldCosplay account. Definitely ImprovingMy sewing is getting better, together with my makeup and wig styling!! Finally! I can say I made a huge leap from my Asuna costume project (2013). Took me 2 years, and here I am...
Content wise I'll update the Reviews section more! I'll make it a point to review the wigs and contact lenses I have. Since I have had tons of experience regarding that. I'm thinking about adding figures to that list, but let's see! I suppose here, I'll add tips about executing the characters! :) Angles, makeup highlights and whatnot! Please do give me your thoughts if you'll find these things helpful? Cheers! -kuricurry First week of January and I've already crammed a lifespan out of me. Rory Mercury, a character I definitely liked but knew wouldn't suit me too well. Honestly, I had to watch tutorials to make my eyes bigger and jaw smaller. Problem Solving: Jawline issue: Contouring via an angled blush and a bit of orange tinted primer Eye Issue: 15 mm red lenses, insane amount of eyeliner and white pencil liner Fluffy Skirt Accuracy Issue: Personal innovation and imagining it in my sleep Optimism, Energy, and PassionSounds like some bad advertising campaign for vitamins, doesn't it? But I think, just sticking to the very basics of human discipline goes a long way. Showing up when you say you will, being nice to everyone and just showing that you respect absolutely everyone! It's easy, it's right and wrong and doing what you KNOW should be done.
Let's start 2016 Strong!! :) My top 3 favorite cosplay projects for 2015, and am still submitting photos from some of these sets (Or most of them). This list, consists of my 'best made yet challenging' costume projects for 2015. I also took how much I learned per project, and how clean and wearable my total output is. TOP 3 Fremmy Speeddraw: Surprised it's not number 1? While this was one of the funnest to make, construction wise. It's also the project that fully introduced me to leather. Leather is on the expensive side so it's unforgiving as a material. But it did not introduce me to any new techniques regarding sewing or painting. Total Construction time: 1 day Total Money Spent: 2,800 php The total includes the wigs (yep WIGS), contact lenses and the weird shades of paint I had to buy for that flower atop her head. TOP 2 Kirishima Easiest and funnest to wear! Had a huge help for those guns at her back from Bram (The father of MARCH). The costume was very easy to make, and I had the chance to improve it further for shoots! This is one of my most-worn and most-awarded costume! (It even has a Daily Deviation awarded to one of it's photos) Total Construction time: 3 days Total Money Spent: 2,500 php The total includes the wigs (yep WIGS), Cloth and paint. TOP 1 Aiz Wallenstein One of the hardest to plan and construct since I started this hobby, and why is that? Because of her backless, form fitting white outfit lined with blue with armor that hugs her. Had so many issues regarding that top of hers, and at the very end of it, I was as accurate as humanly possible! I also discovered how hard it is to work with spandex. The measurements, testing and planning took 2 days in itself. And without a heatgun, I had to make that weird chest plate of hers. Debut was at the same time as my Fremmy, but it was so pleasing to see how accurate it looked despite the exaggerated workload. Total Construction time: 3 days Total Money Spent: 2,500 php The total includes the wigs (yep WIGS), Cloth and paint. Coincidentally, these 3 of mine are part of contests this year. One of which is the coveted Cosplay Costume of the Year awarded which, I will hope to win! :)
Did you have a different list? Or do you have top 3 costumes of your own? Feel free to share or reach out to me on my Facebook. (Or copy paste: https://www.facebook.com/kuricurry) I'm thinking of making lists as well, in terms of blog content. It's what is supposedly 'better' and easier to read for most people. As everyone seems to be on the go as of late.
Do you like this new layout? Or did you like my old one better? Your thoughts are always welcome. Personally, I like how clinically white this new look is. Plus those huge banners are a treat (when they load properly) Prepare for cosplay related lists on tips, venues, costume worse accidents, my top 10 "wish lists", pet peeves, and cosplay related self-made comics! :) (I'm trying to motivate myself to draw more as well)
There's 2 more armored characters on the way, and my stress levels are building up. For the most part, constructing costumes are fun for me. But when I affect other people, and they really have to tell me that they're affected and that they tell me I could kill people with what I'm doing... it's another matter.
Ah, such is life! Am also thinking about making this blog a little more worthwhile to read for people. But I don't exactly have thoughts on the matter. Maybe a shoot-venue review site, since I'm mostly pointing towards that direction in terms of what I do best in cosplay. Anyway! I hope you haven't given up on me yet dear reader! I will have something helpful in store for you this coming month. For now, cheers! And have a good life! Recently, I've been attending to real life needs such as ID's and all that crap. And as you know the local government in the country I so love and reside in has red tape ignorance all over it. Just need around 2 more ID's and I can finally focus on these costume projects. For now though, I did finish (almost, am still missing the buttons for the back part but that's easy) Asuka Tanaka's costume! The colors are nearly spot-on, just that the immense amount of daylight that pours into my room is insanely glorious. But in any case, am pretty happy with the cloth choices. I also learned quite a bit in terms of constructing a "different" type of sailor style uniform. It has a "double" front area, wherein I attached the 4 golden buttons.
COSTUME CONSTRUCTION TIPS/TRICKS/HINTS: Let's admit it, when we look at stuff like these, the initial thought is that it's fairly easy. Well it is, but then details can be easily forgotten. The fold on the front, button styles, sizes and colors of the lining, and how it's supposed to fit and how big the spaces between linings are, can make or break simple costumes like this. I actually dislike these, because it's easier to spot mistakes and harder to cover them up due to the simplicity. Other upcoming Projects:
Cheers! Remember, a very long time ago I posted my reason for cosplaying? And I highlighted the words "NOT FOR FAME" That's because a lot of people seem to be missing my point for doing the hobby. But that also does not mean I dislike people who do it for the sake to be noticed. I personally, want to someday be published in CosGen. Though that's a far off near impossible dream. But, that's my thing, my proof of existence and my proof of youth. I personally don't think it's possible for me, and at the end of the day the people who support me are always going to be treated as friends. The number of people who respect me in this craft recognized me on their own accord. I don't push anyone to support me, and I will never ask anyone to like a page for the sake of random numbers. (Unless perhaps, if I come across another contest I'd like to win) Fame might be a good reason for some people, don't judge them for it. If they're working hard for said goals, then what's wrong with it? If it's achieved through means that don't really hurt people, then what's wrong with it? We can't tell people how to do and what to do with their hobbies. We don't control their time, money and all their resources. What they choose to do is their own, and you should not pay anyone heed. UNLESS of course they're doing it in a way that's illegal or blatantly hurting the community and hobby. Mind you, not a lot of effort but at least a tiny bit and doing it properly would do. it's like a form of respect you have for the craft you're into. Hurting the hobby? If you simply photographed bread, without so much as a thought or story for it and only wanted praises for the picture of said bread... that would be 'hurting the community'. Hobbies will always require a bit of effort. Mind you, not a lot of effort but at least a tiny bit and doing it properly would do. it's like a form of respect you have for the craft you're into. If you expect people to clap their hands and hate them when they don't... Well, just try harder. But if you start bashing or hating on other people who exert a lot more effort than you do, that's how you hurt the community.
Remember my Rin Tohsaka Cosplay? I was wearing her default Red "home clothes", and I do actually have in the works the uniform that I never got to finish. For the most part, I consider that costume already rather sexy. As I shot this outdoors as you can plainly see in the background. That skirt is not something I'd wear on a normal basis specifically, when I'm alone or if I'll be leaning or bending a lot. Now, I went and planned on cosplaying two more versions of Rin Tohsaka. Then I saw a certain official art that piqued my interest.
Remember that this is case to case, as usual If you've signed a contract, and someone else's product is resting on your way of conduct in social media and generally online. Then please, do realize that whatever you pose will affect them as well. But since this IS MY HOBBY As long as I mean well, and I'm not causing pain or stealing someone else's hard earned cash or making money out of someone else's hard work, then seriously... you can't tell a painter how to paint. And you certainly can't really tell me, as a cosplayer who to cosplay and who not to cosplay. It's that simple! :) BUT THIS is really sexy
This is something a few people tend to tell me not to do. It's not something I really do, quite frankly, a LOT of thought went into this costume due to the bareness of her skin and the amount of exposure. But I stared at myself for a little while, and looked at how much effort I go through to maintain my waist, to maintain the flatness of my tummy... I guess there are times you just want to show it off. As I always say, I've never been against sexy cosplays, in fact as long as someone can do it right? Then why the hell not! It's pleasant to the eyes and it's really up to who sees it to see it in a bad light. My objective was merely to cosplay Rin Tohsaka wearing an Archer inspired outfit. I am easily moved by characters, and the weird and tragic love story between the two is something I really enjoy. My intentions are to portray Rin Tohsaka based on that official art. And I am prepared for any sort of attacker or maniac, and won't really wonder why. (Besides, I've already dealt with a few of those and I haven't even done anything completely sexy like a bikini) So what's new? What's your point Kuricurry? Basically, that people, even friends from strangers will have this sort of "perspective" that they might end up measuring us against. And once we go pass or fail their expectations, they will be upset. But the thing here is, we aren't as simple as a perceived notion. We are human beings, and most of us change through time. Most of us don't just do one thing over and over, we expand horizons, we grow and sometimes we like to get out of our comfort zones and perhaps-- in my case, bear the thunder thighs and tiny waist I was born with. Remember that I'm not a nun, and that cosplay should be done for one's enjoyment. Not for anyone else's. Well that was a long water break wasn't it? While I'm pretty sure I'm not quite talking to people who eagerly await for my random blurbs here on my blog. I still enjoy this little outlet of mine and I do try and will try to make it a little more useful as time passes by. For now, I was on a little "life-break" as things got too hectic at work and I really wanted my next blog post to be something useful to people. And yet, I end up with just a mere announcements of cosplay progress and upcoming plans. An update is an update! There's a bunch of stuff that's coming up this month, and I can't believe how jam packed this month is. And how completely lax in terms of hobby-related matters my birth month was. Which is rather sad because work life balance did not exist for me at that month. Oh well, life goes on right? A few things I'm working on are advanced, and another set will be crammed this week. (Cross your fingers for me please?) This weekend is my very own "Rin Tohsaka" day.
Aside the trench coat and orange scarf she seems to wear lately, I'll also be doing an EXTREMELY daring outfit. Something not quite new to me to be honest. As I tend to lean towards panty wearing heroines or characters with ass coverage via a huge cape hung by the waist side. For the curious: I'm still writing and capturing my "How to tackle a cosplan/ The Kuri Way", title is tentative but if I don't come up with anything shorter I'll go with that. As it's not really something for everyone but it does help to lessen the amount of mistakes you can commit in costume making or crafting in general, for that matter!
So look forward for that folks! Hopefully someone out there is still reading these things! And if you are, thank you very much! I honestly...appreciate it! |
